American Birkebeiner

Getting to Hayward/Cable

This is a wilderness area with little public transport. Fly to Minneapolis/St Paul MN and rent a car. Hayward is about 200 km, driving time about 3 hours in good weather. Alternate airport is Duluth, MN. Again, rent a car. Distance to Hayward is about 150 km, driving time 2.5 hours.

Accommodation

Both the Hayward and Cable Chambers of Commerce maintain up to date information on available accommodation. Go to either office (located in the center of town) on arrival and they will find a place for you to stay. Much of the accommodation is in lodges outside of the towns so the rental car really helps. On race morning you can drive to one of the official parking lots for the shuttle service.
